What Happens When You Put Clay in the Hands of a Corporate Team?
Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting an Eclay corporate pottery workshop in Budapest, bringing together a group of professionals for something many of them hadn't experienced since childhood: creating with their hands.
In a world filled with screens, notifications, meetings, and deadlines, it was refreshing to watch a room full of adults slow down, disconnect, and focus on making something tangible.
More Than a Team-Building Activity
When people hear "pottery workshop," they often imagine an arts-and-crafts session.
What actually happens is something much more meaningful.
As participants begin working with clay, conversations become more natural. Teams collaborate, exchange ideas, laugh at their first attempts, and celebrate each other's creations. Titles and job roles fade into the background, replaced by curiosity and creativity.
There is something uniquely powerful about creating alongside colleagues rather than simply working alongside them.
No Experience Required
One of the most common concerns we hear before a workshop is: "I've never worked with clay before." The reality is that no prior experience is needed.
Some participants created elegant trays, plant pots, or decorative pieces. Others experiment with playful shapes and unexpected ideas. There is no right or wrong approach.
What matters most is the experience of making something with your own hands.
And often, the people who claim to be "the least creative" end up surprising themselves the most.
Why Creative Workshops Matter at Work
Modern workplaces ask a lot of our brains. We spend hours solving problems, analyzing information, responding to messages, and making decisions. Creative activities engage a different part of the mind—one that is often neglected during the workday.
For many participants, the workshop becomes an opportunity to:
- Step away from screens
- Reduce stress
- Recharge mentally
- Connect with colleagues in a new way
- Experience the satisfaction of creating something tangible
The result isn't just a finished clay piece—it's a memorable shared experience.
From the Workshop Floor
A small glimpse into the energy of the day: “One of our very first Eclay workshops in Budapest… and honestly? The talent level was suspiciously high.
We made flower pots, trays, tiny masterpieces, and emotional attachments to air-dry clay objects. There was paint throwing. There was chaos. There were at least 17 “WAIT THIS IS ACTUALLY SO CUTE” moments.
10/10 would get clay under our fingernails again 🤍

Moments like these capture what the workshop is really about: freedom, play, and the unexpected joy of making something with your hands.
Every Piece Tells a Story
One of our favorite moments comes at the end of each workshop when everyone places their finished creations side by side.
Despite using the same materials and receiving the same guidance, every piece is completely unique.
Some are minimalist. Some are playful. Some are beautifully imperfect.
Together, they serve as a reminder that creativity doesn't require expertise—it simply requires permission to begin.
Looking Back
Watching a room transform from cautious curiosity to confident creativity never gets old.
We're grateful to every team that chooses to spend an afternoon creating with Eclay, and we're continually inspired by the ideas, laughter, and connections that emerge around the workshop table.
